Ecosystem Growth at COZ

I am a grizzled veteran in the cryptocurrency space, with a career in this industry dating back to early 2018. As Editor at Neo News Today, Host of The Smart Economy Podcast, Ecosystem Growth Lead at COZ, Council Member for the Neo Blockchain, and GrantShares Community Funding DAO voting member, I’ve established myself as a voice in the blockchain industry. With a portfolio of over 1,000 blockchain-focused articles and more than 100 podcast episodes, I strive to provide informational, non-sensational, and fact-based insights into blockchain and crypto.

Before Crypto

I’m a writer, podcast host, builder, and connector. However, prior to discovering blockchain and cryptocurrency, I was an urban planner with experience working at the Colorado Department of Transportation, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Caltrans, and Jefferson County.

I have an undergraduate in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences from Florida State University and a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado – Denver. For many years, I served as a transportation planner and advocated for improved transit networks and a national high-speed rail infrastructure. Dismayed with the pace of traditional urban planning processes, I began to explore blockchain and cryptocurrency not only as a personal financial tool but also what the technology offers society at a broader, global scale.

Neo Ecosystem (2018 – Present)

Layer 1 Public Blockchain Panel, May 2019

I began to cover the Neo Smart Economy ecosystem extensively in January of 2018 and attended the first Neo DevCon in San Francisco (Feb. 18). In Nov. 2018, after more than five years in the urban planning field, I left a position with the county and went full time with Neo News Today.

During my tenure as an editor at Neo News Today, I’ve written more than 1,000 articles about projects, dApps, and entities building within and alongside the Neo blockchain. In addition to my editorial role with Neo News Today, I also hosted more than 50 episodes Neo News Today podcast. My first episode aired on Aug. 7, 2019, and we maintained a bi-monthly posting schedule through Nov. 22, 2021.

Neo Community Assembly, Sep. 2019

In the early years of my blockchain career, I founded Neo Colorado, a local community effort that sought to engage, educate, and build with the developer and blockchain enthusiast community of Colorado. In 2019, Neo Colorado hosted 14 events, which included informal meet-and-greets, developer workshops, a panel discussion, plus more. Following the COVID-19 shut downs, the in-person meetup ceased to exist, though I’ve remained an active fixture in the Colorado blockchain community.

Neo Community Assembly, Shanghai, Sep. 2019

Since jumping feet first into the blockchain industry, I’ve attended various developer- and ecosystem-oriented events, often and advocated on behalf of the end-user and the network. Such events include, the second Neo DevCon in Seattle (Feb. 2019), Neo Community Assembly in Shanghai (Sep. 2019), Neo Community Assembly in Hong Kong (Sep. 2023), Neo Community Assembly in Singapore (Oct. 2024), and Neo Technical Committee in Hong Kong (Feb. 2025).

The Smart Economy Podcast (2022 – Present)

JP Thor, THORChain interview, Oct. 2024

The podcast is dedicated to showcasing builders in the fields of DeFi, NFT, cryptocurrency, identity, infrastructure, and general decentralization.

Representing Neo at Conferences (2022 – Present)

In the many years I’ve been in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry, I’ve also represented the Neo ecosystem at various events, including:

Consensus (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025)

COZ (2024 – Present)

COZ is a software development group specializing in blockchain technology, particularly focused on the Neo blockchain. The team’s predominant products include Neon Wallet (a non-custodial solution), software development kits, and smart contract templates. Additionally, COZ offers support for experiential activations such as conference activations, hackathons, and technical workshops.

In 2023 and 2024, COZ partnered with DENVER WALLS an international mural festival that took place in Denver’s River North neighborhood. The murals were painted by local and international muralists, with each mural accompanied by a bronze plaque embedded with ITEM Systems non-fungible item technology. The plaques enabled mural visitors to interact with the painting by scanning the QR code or tapping the NFI transmitter.

Colorado Motion Meetup Presentation, Aug. 2023

In Feb. 2024, The Smart Economy Podcast hosted a side event at ETH Denver, offering mural visitors free beer for interacting with the NFI-powered plaques. Attendees were asked to scan two NFI waypoints and redeem them for a free pint at Ratio Brewery. The tap and redeem process took place within the mobile phone’s web browser, so users did not need to download an app, save a seed phrase, or pre-load the wallet with GAS.

GrantShares DAO (2022 – Present)

GrantShares is a decentralized funding channel, enabling grants for all kinds of Neo ecosystem development including designing, advertising, networking, and project development. is a transparent DAO that allows any community member to open proposals such as funding requests. After a proposal has been submitted, it is opened on GitHub for public discussion by the Neo community. This allows users in the ecosystem to participate in the process and influence the outcome of each proposal. The GrantShares treasury is primarily sourced from the Neo Foundation.

I’ve helped three team’s draft grant proposals, maneuver the discussion and voting process, and successfully receive GrantShares funding.

Blockchain Advocacy (2019 – Present)

Colorado Blockchain Day at the Capitol, Feb. 2019

In Feb. 2019, I joined Colorado Blockchain Day at the Capitol, to speak alongside dozens of other Colorado-based founders, builders, and workers with careers in the cryptocurrency industry. The event served as an opportunity to educated Governor Jared Polis about the State’s blockchain companies, and to meet with other elected officials to bridge the gap between the crypto industry and our elected officials. University of Michigan Blockchain Club, Oct. 2022

In Oct. 2022, I traveled with several other builders in the Neo ecosystem across a variety of US college campuses in the Midwest and California for the Decoding Web3 US Campus Tour. The purpose of our visit to the blockchain clubs was to espouse the virtues of building careers in Web3, and help provide students with resources to begin working in this industry. During this tour, I spoke at: University of Michigan, Northwestern University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC San Diego, Stanford, and UC Berkeley.

As a direct result of the tour, Neo News Today distributed US $8,000 in grants to two student groups as a result of Neo’s US tour. Our team aimed to incentivize students seeking Web3 industry experience to build a project on Neo.

A special episode of The Smart Economy Podcast comprising the students we met on this tour can be found here.

Stand With Crypto Founders Fly-In, Dec. 2023

In Dec. 2023, I flew out to Washington D.C. alongside other Colorado-based founders with Stand With Crypto, a nonprofit organization backed by Coinbase. We rallied in the nation’s capital to advocate for clear and common-sense regulations in the crypto industry. Representing the interests of 52 million crypto owners in the US, a diverse and predominantly young demographic, the group met with six of Colorado’s elected Senators and Representatives to discuss pro-crypto legislation and the risks of forcing the industry offshore. Our efforts yielded notable results, as two Democratic representatives defied party lines to vote in favor of overturning SAB-121, a SEC-issued rule from March 2022 that mandated companies to record liabilities and assets for customer-held digital assets.

ETH Denver Panel, March 2025

In 2025, I joined several other members from the trip to Washington D.C. to discuss our time in the capital, the conversations we had with elected officials, the wins as a result of our visit, and the hope for pro-crypto legislation looking forward in the US. The panel was entitled Stand With Crypto: The Largest Pro-Crypto Movement in the World. A recording of the panel can be found here.

Hackathons (2023)

In 2023, Neo hosted an APAC Hackathon Tour, which was designed to attract Web3 startups to Neo and introduce them to the burgeoning ecosystem in Hong Kong and the wider APAC region. Neo offered $118,000 in prizes and an additional $1 million in grant funding earmarked to encourage Web3 growth in the region.

Neo visited six cities, including Tokyo, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangalore, Seoul, Singapore, and held the grand finale in Hong Kong. The grand finale gathered 23 teams from across the globe, presenting a range of projects across several categories (i.e., DeFi, NFTs, Web3 gaming, payment solutions, AI, SocialFi, DAOs, and infrastructure).

At the event, I served as a hackathon judge, and moderated a panel focused on blockchain security and privacy.
